THE RULING KING

“He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I have [e]set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” (Psalm 2:4-6) The title of this article seems to indicate something that is obvious, that Jesus is the ruling king. However, we need to look at the deep implications of the Messianic prophecies of the rule of the Messiah. With the unprecedented times that we live in, including the events in the aftermath of the January 6 storming of the Capitol in Washington D.C., we surely need to look at the world through the lens of Jesus as the supreme authority over all things. The country is divided and polarized like never before and understandably so from a political standpoint. We as Christians on the other hand, should not be divided in the truth of God’s word that Jesus reigns above any political leader, party or the whole world system for that matter. In fact, He is the real ruler of the world which for the time being has been taken over by the ultimate usurper, Satan. Psalm 2, which was attributed to David is a beautiful testament to the fact that: 1. God is in charge regardless of what man does - We see in this Psalm in verse 4 that while “The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against His Anointed” (verse 2) - The LORD “who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision”. The Lord is in control and nothing that is happening to our country took place without His permission, yes, even the work of evil people. Do not be discouraged brothers and sisters, God remains on the throne regardless of all the ungodliness of men around us. 2. Evil will ultimately fail - God’s laughter at man’s evil deeds is a strong indication of the futility of wickedness. Those who rebel against God and His anointed one, the Lord Jesus Christ will have their day in court. That court is not a human court corrupted by human judges who look out after their own interests. It is the supreme court of the universe where Jesus, the righteous judge will someday sit and “repay each one according to his deeds.” (Romans 2:6). Therefore stay on course, do not fret because of evildoers (Psalm 37:1) and do not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9)”. God’s Justice is coming. 3. Though His final Kingdom is to come, Jesus is the eternal KING even now - Verse 6 says “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” God is outside time and space and decrees and acts from eternity. From an eternal standpoint, Jesus IS (present tense) King, which means He has already won. Even within the confines of time and space we know that the cross of Jesus is the center of human history and was where Jesus won the victory for us. Since Jesus triumphed, we can also be victorious over sin and death if Jesus truly rules in our hearts. We may not yet see the culmination of our victory since we are still in this fallen world, but from the vantage point of eternity, we are the eternal redeemed people of God who hold fast to the rule of King Jesus. Satan is already doomed and our final redemption draws near. In light of the truth of Who King Jesus is and who we are in Him, let us not get caught up in the underpinnings of this world and its value system. We have hope because we know the outcome of the spiritual warfare that is waging in the heavenly places. It seems counterintuitive but despite the gloomy affairs of the world, we can “rejoice always”; “in everything give thanks and in the midst of all these. “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) because this is the will of JESUS, THE RULING KING for you. God bless you beloved of the Lord. Pastor Ramon
